My Truth About Pre and Post Tests

Pre and post tests are important assets to lesson planning and lessons. They can each contain either the same questions, or different questions. Regardless, they both still evaluate the students' knowledge at that point in time.

Pre-tests are created in order to learn the student's prior knowledge. This will give the teacher an idea of what the students know and what they don't know. Therefore, during the lesson they know what they should focus on more.

During fieldwork, we came up with four pre-test questions for our topic:

It was difficult to come up with questions that weren't too hard or too easy. We wanted the students to not feel too challenged and be worried about the following lessons. On the other hand, we wanted them to know that they were going to be learning new information so they would pay attention to the best of their ability. It was difficult to construct different forms of questions so they wouldn't be repetitive.

When it came to our topic, The Young United States, several students knew this information. However, there were some questions that were commonly missed. Therefore, we addressed them deeper while teaching. After the pre-test comes the lessons. Following the lessons, there will be a post-test.

Post-tests are given in order to know what information the students' remembered. They contain some of the information that was taught in the lessons. They might contain questions that the students have difficulty with during the pre-test, questions that seemed to come up while teaching, or just random questions about the information taught.

After teaching in fieldwork, we came up with four post-test questions:

Coming up with questions for the post-test was difficult. There were several things that we wanted to address to make sure the students knew, but we couldn't ask all of those questions. We chose one question from the pre-test that was commonly wrong, and then we chose some important questions from the lesson.

The results of the post-test were great! A lot of the students got most of our questions correct which showed that we had been effective teachers.
